Creigh Deeds, Virginia's right to work laws, unemployment, and unions

As I said in my last post, there has not be much analysis of Creigh Deeds and his connection to labor unions, in the 2009 Virginia Governors race, Virginians need to look into this scary connection. Unions at one time cared about safe working conditions and fair wages for their employees, now labor unions are no more than a front group for the Democratic party. Unions leaders get paid 6 and 7 figures from unions members dues, and corruption is rampant in many union groups. Some unions such a the Service Employees International Union or SEIU, have very close ties with corrupt groups such as ACORN. With leaders of ACORN being employed by the SEIU and leaders of the SEIU being on ACORN’s board.  Union members are required to pay unions dues out of their paychecks and have no say in how the money is used or where it goes and more times than not it goes to the pay of union leaders or as donations to Democratic politicians.

Virginia is a right to work state. In Virginia you can not be forced to join a union and you do not have to be a member of an unions to gain unemployment in the state, also employers can not tell unions members to leave an unions as a condition of employment. This give employers more latitude in who they hire and gives job seekers freedom to be in a union or not. Virginia’s right to work laws also prohibit an employer from requiring a worker from paying union dues.

Unemployment and high taxes and high rates of unionization of workers goes hand and hand. The 6 states with the highest rates of unemployment are Michigan, Oregon, California, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Michigan, Oregon, California and Rhode Island have the highest union membership rates in the United Sates and also have high state taxes to go along with that. North and South Carolina have hive tax rates above 7%, but lower unionization rates. Oregon, Rhode Island and California have high taxes also, while Michigan has moderate tax rates.

What does this mean to Virginians and how does the 2009 Governors race tie into this, Creigh Deeds has received $1,571,663.37 from unions donations to his run for Governor, this is about 21% of his total donations. This money has come from union leadership, not union members. Deeds has said if elected he will create jobs in Virginia, through the statistics in the previous paragraph shows if Deeds makes Virginia a pro-union state and overturn Virginia’s right to work laws  it will in fact, increase unemployment in the state. Creigh Deeds also has said he will raise taxes, this will also increase unemployment in Virginia. Creigh Deeds has not made a statement of the Employee Free Choice Act, but unions support this bill and the support Deeds has received from unions would lead an intelligent voter to assume that he supports this bill. The Employee Free Choice Act, would take away a workers private vote and allow unions to intimidate workers into joining a union. This bill would by intimidation increase union membership. Creigh Deeds has promised national unions that,

“When I’m Governor, you won’t just have a friend in Richmond-you’ll have a partner.”

The Governor of Virginia being a partner of unions will increase unemployment in Virginia, lessen job seekers choices in employment, and make Virginia a high unemployment state. Creigh Deeds is no friend of Virginia’s worker, just a friend of big labor.

  3. As Governor, nobody can, “make” Virginia a union state, or even nullify the statutes that make Virginia a, “Right to work” state.

As for pronouncements of partnership with organized labor; what Democrat has not made this pledge? Organized labor has been a long-standing supporter of the Democrats, just as Organized Crime has been backing the Republicans.

  4. Does the name Rudy Giuliani, ring a bell Mr. Unballance, a Republican that brought down the mob, does Jimmy Hoffa ring a bell, a union leader killed by the mob, organized crime and unions go hand and hand, you need to check you facts at the door before you post, I do not mind differing opinions on these comments, but asinine commentator’s will be banned after a warning, this is your warning, so check your facts at the door please.
